If the success of ICP in the European building sector, supported by a grant from the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 programme, resulted in a second grant to extend the scheme to industry, street lighting and district energy projects, it is important to point out that the IREE™ Certification for building energy efficiency projects is now operational in Europe and projects can be certified. Project Developers interested in developing IREE™-certified projects can follow an online process that leads to certification. Quality Assurance providers need to be contracted with GBCI, and the Consortium members can provide support for this process.
In Europe, ICP has certified 8 building projects, some of which are presented in case studies here. In addition to projects that have achieved the IREE™ Certification, 30 other projects and programmes have been using the Protocols. For example, the London Mayor’s £500 million Energy Efficiency fund is recommending the IREE™ Certification to all projects they finance. These projects and programmes have been developed by credentialed Project Developers and Quality Assurance Assessors, who are amongst the 120 members of the ICP Networks of providers.
